Voting is the way we — local community members, Virginians and citizens of the United States — express our opinions and preferences. We are periodically asked to mark our ballots for candidates for various offices and to weigh in on proposals to change or enact laws, impose new taxes and many other kinds of questions. Voting is the cornerstone of our democratic process. This year, our votes will elect local government leaders, Virginia’s congressional representatives and the nation’s next president. The Virginia Mercury’s Election 2024 coverage will keep citizens of the commonwealth informed as they prepare to head to the polls.
